WhatsApp, good-bye These are the phones that will not be able to update starting today
The most recent update confirms that a significant development is imminent now that the blue circle's AI has made its appearance on the most widely used messaging app in the world. Compatibility with certain phones has been impacted by the intense rivalry between Signal and Telegram, which has escalated this time.
When a new version of WhatsApp is released, a certain list of phones will no longer use the green app, as is customary. A new law that proposes a change has now been introduced, and it will go into effect today, April 1, 2025.
The app will not be available, so many iOS and Android devices will not be able to run it normally. The information below contains the complete list of these devices, which may include your smartphone.
Which smartphones will not have WhatsApp by April 2025?
The majority of the impacted phones are older models from well-known manufacturers, particularly those with operating systems below iOS 12.0 or Android 5.0 (Lollipop).
Go to Settings > About phone > Software information or All specifications on an Android device to verify. Make sure the Android version information is greater than 5.0 in this case.
To view the iOS version details on an iPhone, navigate to Settings > General > About. Likewise, the complete list of models that will never be able to use the app is as follows:
- iPhone: iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c.
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, and Galaxy S4 Mini.
LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini and L90
Motorola: Moto G (1st generation), Razr HD, and Moto E 2014.
HTC: One X, One X Plus, Desire 500, and Desire 601.
- Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, and Xperia V.
These smartphones will not be able to update or open the app. A message like "This app is not compatible with your device" or a similar sign should appear in the Google Play Store and App Store, preventing you from accessing the install button.
This isn't the first time WhatsApp has done this. It's part of the evolution of smartphones, as WhatsApp has become more demanding with the many new features it's added over time, including Meta AI.
