There will not be any updates for one of Samsung's best-selling phones for eternity

There will not be any updates for one of Samsung's best-selling phones for eternity.

This marks the conclusion of the Galaxy S20 series. Despite not reaching the sales numbers the company had hoped for, Samsung recently completed one of its flagship series, which was ironically born and raised during the pandemic. The company is stopping security patches for this phone family after five years of receiving updates.

Samsung has permanently removed the Galaxy S20 series from its list of compatible devices, according to PhoneArena. The March 2025 patch, released late last month, was the most recent update for the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra.

And now we have come to the end. There will be no more updates for these phones, which marked their fifth anniversary in February.

Samsung had initially promised to provide updates to this series for four years, but in an unexpected move, it extended the deadline to April 2024, shifting to a quarterly schedule. Only the Galaxy S20 FE, its smaller sibling released later (October 2020), is still on the update schedule, though its days are numbered.

The truth is that the S20 did not take off well. The phone's sales in the first quarter of the year were only 8.2 million units, a 33% decrease from the previous year's Galaxy S10 sales. Even in its home country of South Korea, sales did not exceed 60% of those of its predecessor.
