In Windows 10 and 11, turn on this feature to have the computer shut down on its own when you leave it

Everyone is aware of how crucial it is to lock computers, particularly when using them to store sensitive or important data. There are numerous methods in Windows for locking a device without shutting it off, and the majority of them necessitate your intervention each time you wish to lock the computer. However, if you leave the computer unlocked for a long time, someone might tamper with it. Thus, in this post, we will discover how to utilize a feature that relies on Bluetooth and your phone to lock the device automatically in the event that you leave it unlocked.

With the release of Windows 10 in 2017, Dynamic Lock was added. It connects your phone and computer via Bluetooth so that it can periodically check the strength of the signal between them. Windows instantly activates the lock screen to prevent unwanted access if the signal drops to a certain level, signaling that you have left your computer.

Prior to pairing your phone with your computer, you must first enable Bluetooth on your computer. To do this, go to Settings and enable Bluetooth on your phone. In Windows 10 or 11, launch the Settings app on your PC, select Devices, and then press the "Add Bluetooth or other device" button. When the "Add a device" pop-up window appears, you can choose "Bluetooth." After that, the name of your phone will show up in the list. When prompted, confirm the PIN on your computer and phone by tapping it. The final message you will see is "Connection succeeded."

Open Settings, select "Accounts," click "Sign-in options," scroll down to the "Dynamic lock" section, and select "Allow Windows to automatically lock your device when you are away" to activate the Dynamic Lock feature.

The computer will lock after approximately a minute when it determines that you have left Bluetooth range, but if you have multiple paired devices, you are unable to select which one to use to activate Dynamic Lock.
