Breaking records, Windows 11 is now Microsoft's most vulnerable operating system

Windows 11 was hailed as an advancement in security, design, and performance. But Microsoft's new operating system seems to be struggling more than anticipated as time goes on.

When Windows 11 became the most vulnerable version in the company's recent history in the middle of 2024, it set an unwanted record. Given that Windows 10 is nearing the end of its lifecycle, this is an especially concerning fact.

You will no longer be eligible for free support as of October 14. Millions of users will have to decide whether to switch operating systems, upgrade to Windows 11, or risk using out-of-date software if updates and security enhancements are not made.

When compared to prior years, there is no room for uncertainty. The record for the most vulnerabilities found in a single version of Windows to date was 1,292, which has been in place since 2022. But in 2024, Windows 11 exceeded that figure, indicating a concerning pattern.

The promises Microsoft made when launching its most recent system are called into question by the rise in bugs and security flaws.

In theory, Windows 11 was designed to be more secure than previous versions. Requirements such as the TPM 2.0 chip or Secure Boot were intended to ensure that only the most capable devices could boot it. However, figures published by the company in its 2025 Vulnerabilities Report show that Windows 11 is insecure. Despite requiring modern hardware, attackers continue to find new ways to exploit vulnerabilities.
