A 70-year-old driver gets lost in the woods while using Waze to locate a hospital
Although drivers have previously been known to use navigation apps like Google Maps to reach their destinations, their heedless dependence on these platforms causes them to get into odd accidents.
A 70-year-old driver was using the Waze navigation app in Kuala Lumpur when it happened again. Instead of reaching his primary destination—the hospital—he found himself in a jungle with his car stuck in the mud.
In particular, after following Waze's instructions and failing to pay attention to his surroundings, the driver became lost in a palm oil plantation.
He got into another car with his wife and son and headed for the hospital. They lost contact with him because of the traffic jam and were unaware that the veteran driver had vanished.
The entire family was notified by the fire department that the veteran driver had gone missing and that emergency personnel had failed to find him.
Emergency services could not find the 70-year-old driver, despite the family's best efforts to reach him.
Based on some of the shared location information, emergency services eventually had to get in touch with locals and request assistance.
Since there was no way to get to him by car, emergency personnel even had to use motorcycles to locate him.
It took a while to pull the car out of the mud, but the man was waiting nearby and unharmed.
It is important to note that Waze is frequently used for cooperative traffic reporting and mainly concentrates on paved roads.
You risk losing your navigation if you are in an area without signal, like a forest in this case, because Waze does not support offline maps.
As long as you have a pre-configured route, which does not appear to be the case here, Waze can function without a signal.
