With WhatsApp's hidden calculator, which few people are aware of, you can only do this
WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app in the world, keeps improving to give all of its users a complete experience. One of its most recent innovations is the unexpected but incredibly helpful capability of performing calculations straight from any chat without leaving the app or installing extra apps.
This feature, which is exclusive to the most recent version of WhatsApp, enables users to instantly perform simple calculations. What does it mean, of course, that this feature is being introduced gradually? It will be rolled out gradually on iOS and Android, so not all WhatsApp users will have access to it.
Unlike WhatsApp's well-known polling feature or the section where you can send documents and multimedia files, the app's built-in calculator is not a visible tool. Rather, it is concealed inside the chat text field itself and can be accessed by typing an equal sign ("=") after a mathematical operation.
WhatsApp will process the operation and show the outcome as a preview when you enter a mathematical expression and the "=" symbol.
In order to do calculations in a WhatsApp chat, you must do the following:
Launch WhatsApp and join any conversation (group or individual; it is the same).
Write a mathematical operation with the symbols listed below:
- Total: +
- For the offer:
- For division:
- To hit: *
- To write decimal numbers:
- To group expressions in the operation: ().
Don't forget to add an "=" sign at the end of the operation.
In seconds, WhatsApp will show you the response in a preview. If the result is correct, you can select it and send it as a message.
This feature is very useful for those who need to perform quick calculations while chatting on WhatsApp. It can be useful during work conversations, when splitting expenses with a group of friends, or in any situation where you need to perform mathematical calculations without leaving the app.
Although it doesn't replace a scientific calculator or allow advanced calculations, this tool simplifies the process for those who need quick, uninterrupted results.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, this feature is available exclusively on the latest version of WhatsApp and a select few mobile devices (it's available on all iPhones and a select few Android phones).
Future updates are expected to make the app available for all mobile devices, allowing more users to enjoy this convenient tool. If you've already updated the app and are still unable to perform calculations, you have no choice but to wait for the feature to be rolled out worldwide.
