How to Rotate the Screen on a Windows 11 Computer
It is occasionally necessary to rotate the computer screen, particularly when it is attached to an external screen that is oriented differently.
Naturally, the operating system will need to rotate the screen if you use multiple screens and wish to use one of them in landscape mode.
Even though it is simple, many people do not know how to do it, so in this post, we will show you multiple ways to rotate the screen if you are using Windows 11, the most recent version of Microsoft's operating system.
You can use the Windows settings itself to do this or rely on keyboard shortcuts, if this is supported on your device, as we will explain later.
In addition to altering a few other display settings, we can primarily rely on this method to rotate the computer screen.
All you need to do is launch the Settings app in Windows 11 by pressing the Win + I keys together on the keyboard or from the Start menu, and then select the System section from the left-hand sidebar. Now, click on Display on the right half of the screen to enter the screen adjustment settings. By the way, you can easily access the screen settings by right-clicking on an empty space on the desktop, and from the menu that appears, choose Display Settings.
Following the display settings, you will see an option labeled "Display orientation" at the bottom of the Scale & layout section. Next to it is a drop-down list; click on it and select one of the four styles based on your preferences and needs. The styles are as follows: Landscape, which is the direct view style that your computer is currently using; "Portrait," which rotates your screen 90 degrees to the left; and the inverted natural style Landscape (flipped), which flips your screen 180 degrees.
Finally, the inverted Portrait (flipped) style, which rotates your screen 90 degrees, but as you expected, to the right.
After you have chosen your preferred display style, the screen will flip as we described, and a 15-second message will ask you if you want to keep the changes.
Clicking Keep changes will save the changes, and if you click Revert, the display style will return to what it was. If you leave this message for 15 seconds and do not click anything, the display style will also return to what it was.
You can easily use keyboard shortcuts to rotate the screen if you are looking for a simple way to do it without getting into the specifics we discussed above. However, this method only works if your device has an Intel graphics processor, so if you do not have one, use the first efficient method that works with processors from all companies.
It is also worth noting that this method may not work by default on all devices that include Intel hardware, so you need to activate it manually first, using the Intel Graphics Command Center application, which you will find pre-installed on the device. Simply, after opening the application, go to the “System” section from the side menu and activate the “Enable System HotKeys” option to enable the keyboard shortcuts.
Now if you want to rotate the screen 90 degrees to the left using the keyboard, press the left arrow key plus Ctrl + Alt keys together, and you will see the screen rotated to the left immediately. Also, to rotate the screen 90 degrees to the right by pressing the right arrow key plus Ctrl + Alt keys (the same keys as before with only the arrow key changed), the screen will rotate to the right immediately, and to rotate the screen 180 degrees by pressing the down arrow key + Ctrl + Alt keys at the same time to flip the screen orientation upside down. To return the screen to the normal orientation, press the up arrow key plus the Ctrl + Alt keys.
So, if you have an Intel graphics card, you can change the screen orientation by pressing just three keys; two of them are Ctrl + Alt, and the third is an arrow that depends on the direction of the screen to which you want to rotate.
In summary, there are two fundamental methods for rotating your computer screen in the desired direction: using keyboard shortcuts or the Settings app. The first method works regardless of the graphics card you are using, while the second works on Intel graphics cards only. If you have a third method that you would like to share with us, do not hesitate to tell us about it so that as many followers as possible can benefit.
