File uploading and analysis are available to free account holders on Gemini
Google has announced that it is making file uploading and analysis available to free Gemini account holders, a feature that was previously only available to subscribers.
When you install the latest version of the Gemini app via the Google Play Store, you'll see a message that you can download and analyze files for “quick summaries and actionable insights.”
File upload options can be found by clicking on the “+” icon in the lower left corner. Gemini has added two new options, “Files” and “Drive,” in addition to the previous options “Camera” and “Gallery.” These updates are also available to users with free accounts on the web.
Free Gemini users can now upload files directly from Google Drive or their devices. The feature allows them to ask questions about files or summarize their contents using the Gemini 2.0 Flash model.
Supported file formats that can be uploaded include plain text files, code files, document files, as well as Google Docs, spreadsheet files, and spreadsheets created via Google Sheets.
Google has not yet announced file size or number limits for Gemini users with free accounts. Gemini Advanced users can upload 10 files at a time with a maximum of 100MB per file.
Other AI applications such as ChatGPT allow uploading files and images to user accounts, whether free or subscribed, with the ability to summarize them, ask about them, request analysis, and perform many actions on them.
