Everyone can use OpenAI's new o3-mini, which performs better than DeepSeek. Here's how to get free use of it
Last December, OpenAI introduced the o3-mini, a new advanced reasoning model, which will be added to ChatGPT at some point in the future. That time is now. The company, headed by Sam Altman, has already launched the new O3-mini phone for all users.
This model allows the chatbot to respond and solve more complex issues in detail, which can be very useful in those situations where we are looking for a more detailed and precise answer or explanation. You can start using O3 Mini now, even if your account is free.
OpenAI introduced GPT-01 in September 2024 as a model capable of “thinking better” about its answers, even if it takes longer to answer our questions. This model focuses on thinking and will therefore also be able to recognize and understand its own mistakes, if any. The big difference with GPT-01, basically, is that instead of trying to give us an answer as quickly as possible (something a chatbot usually does by default), its priority is to give us the best answer.
With this reasoning ability, the GPT-01 model can think and analyze before providing a response, just like a human would, OpenAI said at the time. Now, with the O3-mini release, the model’s capabilities have been improved, and OpenAI has already released it to the public. According to the company, tests of O3-mini showed that it reduced errors on the most difficult questions by 39%, compared to O1-mini.

In the web version of ChatGPT, we will now see a new button called “Reason,” by clicking on which we will indicate to the chatbot that we want it to infer its response; to do this, the o3-mini model will be used. As we have already explained, this way ChatGPT may take a little longer to provide us with the answer, but it will be a more detailed and sophisticated response.
This is ideal for answering questions related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. On the other hand, for tasks such as writing an email, a cover letter, or the like, it may be better to use standard ChatGPT.
The new O3-mini reasoning model is now available to all ChatGPT web users, even free accounts. However, if you have a free account, usage will be limited. ChatGPT Plus users will be able to send up to 150 messages per day using the reasoning model, while ChatGPT Pro users can use the o3-mini model unlimitedly.
