An expert in artificial intelligence warns of the risks associated with using ChatGPT search without registering. Google is the Best
The way we look for information is being altered by artificial intelligence, and OpenAI has advanced this with its free ChatGPT Search. Now, any user can access it without creating an account or providing personal data.
In an interview at COPE, technology expert Juan Diego Polo cautions that while this is an improvement in accessibility, there may be serious risks associated with it, particularly with regard to information reliability and competition with conventional search engines.
“It's a huge threat,” the expert explains, adding, “The platform's AI can generate responses that, while seemingly accurate, are not at all.”
Until recently, to use ChatGPT’s intelligent search engine, you had to register on the platform. However, OpenAI has removed this barrier and allows anyone to make inquiries without having to identify themselves.
This decision has been interpreted as a strategy to compete directly with Google and provide instant responses without users having to navigate between multiple links.
Polo believes this advance could change the search engine landscape on the web. “While there are still a handful of users who are turning to ChatGPT’s new search engine, as people discover how easy it is to get direct answers, OpenAI’s search engine usage is likely to grow significantly,” he says.
However, he warns that this type of technology is not without risks, especially when it comes to searching for sensitive information such as health or safety.
Google has dominated the internet search industry for decades, but generative AI is challenging its dominance. Unlike the traditional link-based model, ChatGPT search provides direct and simplified answers.
This speed may make users prefer OpenAI’s search system, but the problem lies in the reliability of the answers. Unlike Google’s results, which come from verified sources, the AI search engine generates answers based on language patterns, without always providing clear references.
What is certain is that the competition between AI and traditional search engines has only just begun. OpenAI will need to improve the accuracy of its system if it wants to gain users’ trust in areas where accurate information is so important.
