The 22nd version of the LineageOS custom ROM is here. LineageOS 22 has been officially announced and is based on Android 15 with a ton of exciting new features for over 100 different devices, including the Pixel 9, which is compatible for the first time ever.
Unlike LineageOS 21 which was released in February 2024, LineageOS 22 arrived much earlier than expected (December 31, 2024), which will allow users of this ROM to welcome 2025 with the latest Android 15 installed on their phones.
This new release, based on Android 15 QPR1, includes all security patches until December 2024. The most eye-catching new feature in LineageOS 22 is the new music player called “Twelve” that replaces “Eleven.” As you can see in the screenshots, this new player uses Material Design, offers a mode for tablets and larger screens like foldables, supports several music library server protocols, including Subsonic and Jellyfin, and includes a bunch of other settings to improve the listening experience.
On the other hand, LineageOS 22 is releasing a native PDF reader that will accompany its Jelly browser (which has the ability to open PDF) so you don't have to install a dedicated app to read these documents.
A new ROM downloads page has also been added with a custom dark theme for the first time and the ability to check downloaded files, even those not obtained from the official repository.
