This program is installed on your computer against your will by the most recent version of Windows 10
As expected, Microsoft is betting on the majority of its users using Windows 11. But that doesn't mean abandoning Windows 10, even though it's still only a few months away from the end of its life.
A good proof of all this is the fact that patches and updates continue to be sent to this almost ancient version of the operating system. It is not for nothing that it is still the most used, although the situation is expected to change radically next October. From that moment on, you will not receive any kind of updates, at least for free, unless you start paying for extended support for Windows 10.
Now we will focus on the latest update that has arrived for this particular version of the system, which also includes an application that has been forcibly installed on our computer. We are telling you all this because the aforementioned update, KB5050081, currently automatically installs the new Outlook application to encourage its use.
This is an optional update coming to Windows 10 that brings some interesting improvements, but it will also generate some controversy. Perhaps the most striking thing about it is that it forces the arrival of a program that Microsoft wants us to use from now on. Especially since the calendar and email applications that we have found installed in Windows for years have disappeared. We are referring to the new Outlook application that will be installed on computers with the aforementioned update once it is downloaded.
Many will be forced to install it due to the number of fixes it includes. But of course, in addition to that, the update we mentioned comes with a hidden gift. Even if you have no intention of using it, Microsoft will install the Outlook application for managing email on your computer.
Since the Mail and Calendar apps are set to stop working on December 31, 2024, Microsoft believes that the new Outlook app could be a must-have for many people. In addition to being a powerful email manager, it offers a number of additional automated features, hence its inevitable arrival.
On the other hand, it is worth noting that the KB5050081 update for Windows 10 contains many fixes. One of the most important issues is the sound problem on computers that use some DAC audio devices. This error occurred after installing the January 2025 patch update and has now been resolved.
In addition, fixes have also been introduced for bugs that were recently discovered with some USB cameras that we have installed in Windows 10. In parallel, bugs that were recently discovered with some NFC readers and with some printers have also been resolved. So people affected by any of these problems should update as soon as possible, although they will also have to use the Microsoft program we mentioned above.
