It is incredible and works to install Windows 11 on a computer with just 184MB of RAM.
When we think of Windows, we don’t think of an operating system that is efficient in consuming RAM. However, the RAM requirements for Windows 11 aren’t as stringent as the CPU requirements. The system currently requires at least 4GB of RAM to run Windows 11, although this is certainly not recommended.
However, one developer wanted to go one step further by running Windows 11 with an amount of RAM that wasn’t available even in the days of Windows XP. It turns out that Microsoft’s latest system can run with just 184 MB of RAM. And of course, all thanks to Tiny11.
- Windows 11 on a system with 184 MB of RAM
If you're not already familiar with Tiny11, it's basically a very lightweight version of Windows 11 that's been modified by a third party and is designed to run the latest version of Microsoft's operating system on older computers.
In this case, its developer, known as NTDEV, was able to run Windows 11 using Tiny11 on a system with just 184 MB of RAM. As proof, he shared a post on Eki with screenshots showing the Performance tab in Windows 11’s Task Manager.
Already in October last year, he managed to make Windows 11 24H2 fit on a single DVD of just 3.54 GB. Now this developer has managed to show how efficient Tiny11 is by showing that it can run even on systems with a small amount of RAM.
The developer explains that he achieved this by entering Windows 11’s Safe Mode, which is a much more limited environment than when you boot Windows normally. Furthermore, that amount of RAM won’t allow you to do much on the system either. Still, it’s a pretty big achievement, so much so that it could be a record.
So, if you have a PC with just 200MB of RAM, you can rest assured that it will be able to run Windows 11 and even Tiny11 without any issues in Safe Mode. Of course, as long as the CPU is SSE 4.2 compatible and TPM 2.0 is enabled, which is unlikely on systems with that much RAM.
Tiny11 is responsible for removing all the bloatware and pre-installed apps from Windows 11 to leave the system with only the essentials, which is very useful for older computers. To get this version, we just have to go to this Internet Archive link and download the version and then install it on an executable drive, such as a USB.
