iOS 19 will bring the biggest design change in more than a decade. This is its new look
iOS 19 is set to launch in September, but little by little we’re learning more details about the new operating system that will be available on compatible iPhones. New features include an updated assistant that relies on large language models to make Siri more conversational and capable of performing tasks it currently can’t, thus abandoning its reliance on ChatGPT.
Recent leaks claim that the camera app in iOS 19 will be completely redesigned to look more like VisionOS than ever before, Apple’s Vision Pro. And if the app’s design changes, so will the system itself, which would be one of the biggest redesigns since iOS 7 launched in 2013.
Jon Prosser, on his YouTube channel Front Tech Page, shared a video showing what the upcoming camera app coming to iOS 19 will look like. Although the leaker claims to have obtained a real video, he chose to share a private video in order to protect his source.
As you can see in the shared video, the camera app will have a VisionOS-inspired interface with transparent and simple menus. The app will be divided into two categories for photos and videos, with options to record spatial video, set a timer for the photo, and more. Additional controls for video resolution and frame rate will appear at the top of the screen as needed.
While it hasn’t been explicitly confirmed, Jon Prosser speculates that the camera app redesign may not come alone. If iOS 19 brings a new interface to one of the most important apps, it’s very likely to be a system-wide change, so iOS 19 could come with a new design that looks like VisionOS, with transparent UI elements or rounded app icons.
Of course, we must take into account that this rumor has already appeared last year. In April, a leaked image of what could be the new camera app interface was leaked, but it seems that these changes were intended for iOS 19. This new version is scheduled to be presented next June at WWDC 2024 and will be launched in September. Along with the iPhone 17 series, which is also the version in which the new Apple Intelligence features will be gradually released, as is the case in iOS 18.
