Google Maps is surpassed by Pokemon Go maps; rescue a family that got lost in the forest

Pokémon Go has been with us for several years since its original launch, and one of the keys to its success is its unique map where different creatures appear as we walk around in real life.

These are highly detailed maps, based on the Open Street Maps (OSM) model, where users can collaborate with different roads.

Recently, three hikers got lost in a forest in Spain and had to rely on Pokémon Go to get them safely back to town.

At first, the lost hikers used Google Maps to see if they could find their way back to town, but strangely, none of the trails in the area showed up.

They found themselves completely lost in a very dense forest, not knowing how to get back to the city safely.

In a strange move, they decided to use Pokémon Go to distract themselves a bit and saw that the maps in the game actually showed the paths ahead of them.

So they put Google Maps aside and focused on Pokemon Go, through which they were able to find the right way back to town.

The reason these tracks don't appear on Google Maps is that the maps are created based on information collected by cars and motorcycles, and dense forests are not a place for these types of vehicles.

However, since Pokémon Go relies on tracks made by users themselves, it is very likely that there were other hikers who were in this forest before to record tracks.

Now you know, if you ever find yourself lost and Google Maps just can't help you, maybe Pokemon Go is the answer.
