Find out how USB debug mode differs from a regular connection in Android
Find out how USB debug mode differs from a regular connection in Android and whether it is best to leave it turned on all the time.
Most of the time, you will need to enable USB Debugging mode in order to uninstall an application using ADB or even to connect your phone to your computer for some reason. This is a very simple process, but many people are unaware of the distinction between activating it and establishing a regular connection, and is it wise to keep it enabled all the time?
What is the difference between USB debugging and a traditional connection?
When you connect your Android phone to your computer, whether to transfer files, charge the battery, or anything else, you should know that direct access to the storage unit or system files is not provided, which changing them could cause problems for the phone.
In this case, the phone asks you to approve any change that happens to the phone, so when you activate USB Debugging mode, you give direct access to the connected device, and here we mean complete control over the data stored on your phone.
On the other hand, a normal connection does not provide root access and thus does not allow you to install any software, so it is a good idea not to enable USB Debugging mode if you are only going to charge your phone or transfer files as well, and you hardly need to enable it only if you are going to make a change to the phone.
Is it advisable to keep the mode enabled permanently?
It is not recommended to leave this mode enabled, as malware may infiltrate your device, especially if it falls into the wrong hands. Please note that activating this mode somewhat reduces security because the computer or device connected to it has the authority to control it.
Having it always on might not be a problem if you're doing it with your PC, but it's a different matter if you want to charge your phone using a device that's not yours.
Finally, USB debugging is very important on your phone, and it gives your computer quite a bit of power, so you should be careful and only enable it when necessary.
