3 Things I Like About Waze That Google Maps Doesn't

In a world where technology makes our lives increasingly easier, choosing the right tool for any task is essential. If you have to listen to music, you won’t use the app with the fewest songs. If you’re going to connect online, you’ll want the app with the best coverage, and as in the current case, you want to drive with peace of mind that your GPS won’t get in your way, so choosing between Waze and Google Maps is essential.

Why choose between these two? Well, because they are the two best navigation apps that we can connect to our car’s infotainment system to use as a GPS. Of course, there are some differences between these two apps, at least in my case, which made me choose Waze, over Google Maps.

- 3 advantages that Waze has over Google Maps

We are talking about two applications competing for leadership in the field of driving assistance. Both provide a basis for getting to our destination, but Waze stands out by surpassing Google Maps in some features, providing a personalized and real-time experience within a very large user community that has become one of its main assets. That is why I prefer this navigation application:

- Real-time driving:

Waze stands out for its focus on real-time information. Users can report and view events such as traffic, accidents, road works, police presence, and more. This information is constantly updated by the Waze driver community, allowing users to make informed decisions about their route. On the other hand, Google Maps relies on historical data and less reliable updates, which can mean that the information isn’t always accurate and can make you think there’s an event where there isn’t, or that you’re experiencing an accident too late. This translates into greater accuracy and flexibility for the driver, allowing them to avoid congestion and find more efficient alternate routes.

- Customization:

The app offers a wide range of customization options that Google Maps doesn’t offer. Users can choose their avatar, the type of car they drive, and even the voice that gives them directions. They can also set up alerts for different types of events, such as speed cameras or congestion zones. Google Maps does offer some customization options, but they’re not as extensive as Waze.

- Social component:

Waze has a strong community that sets it apart from Google Maps and makes it one of the best GPS apps out there right now. Users can connect with friends and family, share their routes, and receive notifications about their location. They can also participate in challenges to earn points and unlock rewards. Google Maps doesn’t have similar social features, though it does provide information about a lot of other things.

In short, Waze has become an app that, perhaps more complex to use than its competitor Google Maps, is indispensable for those looking for a constantly evolving navigation experience.
