Want to buy a fast SSD hard drive Learn the difference between it, NVMe and M.2
If you are thinking about building your own computer and have already calculated your budget and have in mind the type of device you want, powerful or medium, you will eventually reach doubts about the type of fast storage you want on your device between SSD, M.2, and NVMe. All of these disks differ from each other in many features, and in this post we will guide you on the differences between them.
These units differ in reading and writing speed, storage capacity and cost. We will show you the details of each storage unit separately and the difference, and you are the one who determines your appropriate choice.
- SSD hard drive:
It is an abbreviation for Solid State Drive, which means a non-mechanical hard drive, meaning it does not rely on a pen reader like an HDD, but rather on electronic chips that provide it with speed in reading and writing, and it is connected via the SATA port on the motherboard. It is also not exposed to high temperatures, which means a longer life and does not get damaged quickly.
The reading speed reaches 550 MB and the writing speed reaches 520 MB. By the way, it varies according to the company and the manufacturing quality, but it is certainly better than the HDD disk, which has a speed of only 100 MB.
It is available in sizes of 128 GB, 512 GB, 1 and 2 TB and more. Its cost is considered average compared to other storage units, but in terms of speed, it provides good and acceptable performance. It is recommended to buy it if you have an average budget.
- HardM.2 :
M.2 refers to the connection port and is considered the second generation of SSD hard drives, which means that it has the features of SSDs and even better in terms of reading and writing speed thanks to the NAND Flash chips and the M.2 port on the motherboard, which provides high speed and efficiency in reading and writing.
M.2 is available in sizes similar to SSDs, but its speed reaches up to 2500 for reading and 2000 for writing, which means that it is much better compared to SSDs. In terms of cost, if you have a high budget, it is recommended to buy it instead of SSDs.
- NVMeM.2 hard drive:
NVMeM.2 hard drive uses the same M.2 port and is considered the fastest hard drive in terms of reading and writing at the present time and is the most expensive compared to SSD and M.2.
It is considered the latest hard drive and requires a modern motherboard that provides M.2 ports to provide speed for NVMeM.2 to reach its maximum speed. Speaking of hard drive speed, NVMeM.2 read speed reaches 3500 and write speed reaches 3100 maximum.
Finally, if you are determined to buy an SSD, you should first consider the cost and storage capacity you will get in return. If you have a higher budget, I advise you to buy M.2 or NVMeM.2 to get the best performance and speed. These are the most important differences between these drives.
