This popular Windows ZIP file software has a major security vulnerability and you should update it quickly

Although Windows 11 already includes a tool that enables us to manage file compression, the truth is that many users still have this type of application installed on their computers, even for many years now.

One of the most important applications used when it comes to file compression is 7-Zip. In fact, 7-Zip is what most users use to compress files when Windows does not have this feature built in by default.

Unfortunately, as researchers from Trend Micro Security have revealed  , there is a flaw in this 7-Zip software that affects all versions prior to 24.07 and would allow attackers to execute code on your computer.

Although special user interaction is required, the fact is that something as simple as downloading a particular file can be used to install malware on your computer.

The latest version of 7-Zip is 24.08, which was released last June, and no longer has this vulnerability.

However, you should know that updates to this program are not automatic, the user must download them manually, and it is possible that you are still running an old version of 7-Zip that is vulnerable to hacking.

So what you should do is update to the latest version of 7-Zip or uninstall the one you have directly to avoid this kind of attacks on your computer in the future.
