Sony is developing a new portable console to play PS5 games

Sony is developing a new portable console, Bloomberg reports. The console will be able to play PS5 games on the go, without needing to be tethered to the main console, and is designed to compete with the Nintendo Switch, the report says.

According to Bloomberg sources, in addition to being a counterattack on Nintendo, the new portable console also seeks to “extend Sony’s reach.” Additionally, it would be a move to counter any potential “portables” from Microsoft and Xbox, the latter of which has already confirmed that it is working on prototypes of the same category.

However, we are still many years away from Sony's new portable console. According to sources, the portable console is in the "early stages of Sony's development", and in fact it is stated that it may not even be realized. Sony could still decide not to finally launch it on the market.

The idea for Sony’s new portable console was born out of the PlayStation Portal, Bloomberg reports. This 8-inch device lets you play PS5 games portablely, but by streaming from the console.
