Solve the problem of not updating Google Chrome

Keeping your Google Chrome browser up to date is essential to keep it secure and performing well. New updates bring performance improvements and fixes for vulnerabilities that could leave your device vulnerable to malware. However, some users sometimes encounter issues updating their browser, such as internet outages, lack of storage space, or conflicts with system settings. Failure to update can leave your device vulnerable to threats or affect overall performance. In this article, we'll go over the most common reasons for update failure and how to fix them to ensure you're using Google Chrome at its best performance and security.

Reasons for Google Chrome browser update failure

Google Chrome update can fail for a variety of reasons. Here are some common reasons:

  • Unstable internet connection: A weak connection may cause the update process to fail.
  • Lack of storage space: The update requires sufficient space on the device to download and install the new version.
  • Google Services Issue: There may be temporary issues with Google servers that are hindering the update process.
  • Antivirus conflict: Some antivirus programs may consider Google Chrome update unsafe and block it.
  • Firewall or proxy settings: Firewall or proxy settings may prevent Chrome from accessing the Internet to install updates.
  • Corrupted files: Sometimes system files or Google Chrome files get corrupted, causing the update to fail.
  • Old OS version: The update may require a specific OS version; if the device has an old OS, the update may not occur.

Before explaining the steps with pictures below, here are quick solutions:

  • Make sure Google Chrome is permanently stopped via Task Manager
  • Make sure you have an internet connection.
  • Disable add-ons
  • Clear browsing data and traces
  • Flush DNS cache

Solve the problem of failure to update Google Chrome browser

First, open the Run window by pressing Win + R keys and typing this command “services.msc” then Ok.

The Windows Services window will open, select any option with one click and then press the letter G to access the Google Chrome option. You may find more than one option with the same name.

After that, right-click on the option "Google Update Service", or if it is not available, click on any other option called "Google Chrome", then "Properties"

A window will pop up, from the "General" tab and from the "Type de start" or "Startup type" field depending on the language.

Then click on the arrow and from the drop-down menu select the “Manuel” option, then “Apply” and Ok to save the changes.

After applying the above steps, it is better to restart your computer.

I tried all the methods and solutions and the problem of Google Chrome update was not solved. The solution remains, which is to delete the browser from its roots, and re-download and install the latest version from the official website .

The explanation is over. Good luck to everyone.
