Get used to seeing this important application from now on, because it may be pre-installed on your phone + download link

Bloatware is hard to get rid of. When one goes, another comes along. Right now, Google is preparing to shut down Google Fit and in its place we could find another Google app pre-installed on our next Android phone, the Fitbit.

The OPPO Find X8’s latest Fitbit app is pre-installed — at least in some regions — and Google has confirmed to 9to5Google that while it’s not a mandatory app, manufacturers have the option to include it in their ROMs as a health and wellness app. OPPO has chosen to do this, and others may do the same.

As Google phases out Google Fit, with APIs set to be deprecated next year, new Android phones are left “orphaned” without a pre-installed health app. That’s where Fitbit comes in. We’re already seeing it on some phones, and Google says:

“Fitbit launched the app earlier this year for Android OEMs as we continue to support the health and well-being of more consumers. Many device manufacturers have chosen to pre-install the app on their mobile devices.”

Google’s statement actually tells us that many manufacturers have chosen to include Fitbit within their pre-installed apps. The upside is that there won’t actually be any more apps, since the Fitbit app will take the place that Google Fit previously occupied. That means one goes out and another comes in.

- Application:  Fitbit
