In macOS, there is something known as Force Quit, which is a quick option that allows users to force close an application if it stops responding and cannot be closed normally. It is located in the menu that appears after right-clicking on the application icon from the Dock, so it eliminates the need to open the Activity Monitor tool to do this.

Unfortunately, there is no such option in Windows. If a window freezes and the phrase "Not Responding" appears, you need to press the (✖) button repeatedly or open the Task Manager and search for the program to be able to force close it. However, this is different from what is in Windows 11, where Microsoft added the End Task option to the taskbar menu, similar to macOS.

End Task This feature, which is one of the most long-awaited features by Windows users, is now available to users on Windows 11 as part of the 23H2 update, which was launched in October 2023. Therefore, if you want to add the End Task option to the taskbar menu in Windows 11 now, you will need to make sure that you have the latest versions of Windows 11 installed.

Enable End Task feature in Windows 11

  • First, right click on the taskbar and select "Taskbar settings".
  •  Windows Settings page pops up, click on "System"
  • On the right side, scroll down, and select "For developers".
  • On the next page, scroll down and select “End Task”.
  •  Then activate the feature by turning the button from Off to On.

After applying the above steps, right click on the icon of any program installed on the taskbar and you will notice the addition of an “End Task” button.
