In a daily work environment on a computer, a user may sometimes need to quickly shut down the device, especially in emergency situations or when frequently finishing work. Instead of following the traditional shutdown steps via the Start menu, a custom shortcut can be created on the desktop that shuts down the device with a single click. This shortcut is useful for users who prefer speed or have difficulty accessing the Start menu.

What is the abbreviation for ShutDown?

A shortcut is a small file created on the desktop or elsewhere for quick access to a specific application or command. In the shutdown state, this shortcut can be designed to execute the "Shutdown" command, which shuts down the system with a single command. By customizing this shortcut, shutdown options such as delaying execution for seconds or forcing open applications to close can be controlled, giving the user flexibility and control.

Benefits of creating a ShutDown shortcut to shut down:

  • Save time: Shuts down quickly without going into menus.
  • Full control: Settings such as time delay or force closing of apps can be customized.
  • Ease of Use: Makes shutdown at your fingertips with just one click, especially useful for work devices or devices that need to be shut down frequently.

note

The shortcut to shut down the computer on the taskbar may annoy some users, and the reason is that accidentally clicking on the icon leads to shutting down the computer unintentionally.

Create a ShutDown shortcut to shut down your computer

You can create a shortcut button in both the taskbar and the right-click menu, which makes it easy for you to shut down the computer from the button that will be created in easy steps.

First, right click on the desktop, then "Nouveau" or "New" depending on the language, then "Raccourcie" or "Shortcut" depending on the language to create a new shortcut.

A window will pop up, type this command:

shutdown /s /t 0

Then continue "Subsequent" or "Next" depending on the language.

In the next window, you will find "shutdown" and if the field is empty, type the same word and then continue "Next", and you will notice that an icon has been created on the desktop

The "shutdown" shortcut is ready, you can double click it and the computer will shut down, but we want to customize the shortcut by adding it to the taskbar and right click menu.

Now, right click on the icon and select “Proprietes”.

A window will pop up, go to the tab then "Raccourcie" or "Shortcut" depending on the language, then click on "Change d icone"

Another window will pop up, choose a custom icon for the shortcut we created and then click Ok, as shown in the image below.

After you have finished creating the shortcut to shut down the computer, and customized its icon, to pin the shortcut to the taskbar, right-click and choose "Pin to taskbar" or "Pin to taskbar" depending on the language, the icon to shut down the computer will be pinned to the taskbar.

With these steps, we have finished creating a “shutdown” shortcut to shut down the computer from the Windows 10/11 taskbar.

The explanation is over. Good luck to everyone.
