Apple users shocked after discovering that this device contains chemicals that cause birth defects and cancer
Apple fans were shocked to learn that the device sold by the tech giant contains chemicals known to cause birth defects and cancer.
The $100 Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Charger has a warning on the accessory's Apple page, hidden at the bottom, that California regulators have slapped Apple with a ban due to its dangerous content.
California has mandated that the product carry a warning alerting consumers that this wireless charger can “expose you to chemicals including bisphenol A (BPA).”
BPA, a chemical commonly used to help strengthen plastics, is known to disrupt hormones in the body, causing problems with fertility, sexual development, and other issues.
The warning comes because of California's Proposition 65, passed in 1986, which has long required companies to alert consumers to the dangers of BPA in their products.
The warning has left nervous Apple fans wondering, "Should I be worried about this?"
The Apple-certified Belkin wireless charger joins the growing ranks of consumer goods contaminated with the hormone-mimicking chemical, including everything from water bottles and trash bags to tableware, rugs and more.
California regulators have ordered the product, the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank (pictured), to carry a warning alerting consumers that the wireless charger can “expose you to chemicals including bisphenol A (BPA).”
