Windows Antivirus Now Has New Feature to Use Unsecured Wi-Fi Without Fear

Using unsecured networks can be a big problem. It is something that happens, for example, if you connect to a Wi-Fi network at the airport, shopping mall or any public place. Now, Microsoft’s antivirus Windows Defender has a new function that allows you to detect and warn about this type of dangerous networks. Basically, it will warn when a user is connected to an unsecured network, in order to avoid attacks and problems.

The Windows browser has a feature that aims to improve privacy. Specifically, it is known as Defender VPN. It is used to protect security and privacy when using potentially dangerous Wi-Fi networks. Now, this feature will warn users that they are connected to an untrusted network.

Microsoft says it added this new feature to help users know if they are connected to an unsecured network. Nowadays, it is very easy to find a Wi-Fi network to connect to almost anywhere. But is it always secure? The truth is, no.

The idea is that when the user receives this alert, they activate Defender VPN. What this does is encrypt the connection. Everything goes through some sort of encrypted tunnel, preventing it from being exposed to third parties. This is useful for preventing Man in The Middle attacks, which is basically a cybercriminal connected to the network and intercepting what the victim is doing.

Currently, this Microsoft Defender feature to alert you about unsecured Wi-Fi networks is available for Windows, iOS, and Android. We hope it will also be compatible with macOS soon. It is not available to everyone yet, as Microsoft will gradually add it until it reaches everyone.
