WhatsApp copies Snapchat's amazing effects and masks for video calls Learn how to activate them

It has been a long time since WhatsApp introduced filters and backgrounds in video calls. Now camera effects are added to these filters to liven up your video calls more than ever.

WhatsApp copies the functionality of Instagram or Snapchat, offering masks and effects to use in video calls. There are ten of them at the moment and they are already being tested in the beta version of the app, so we tested them. You might be able to try them too.

At the beginning of the month, WhatsApp officially introduced custom filters and backgrounds for calls. They were somewhat acceptable compared to the original artwork you find in video calls on apps like Instagram, Messenger or Snapchat.

To activate camera effects in WhatsApp, it is necessary to activate them from the privacy options in WhatsApp, with the option to allow camera effects. These are the steps:

- In WhatsApp, go to Settings.

- Open the privacy section.

- Select Allow camera effects.

It seems that the camera effects in WhatsApp are still in testing, so you will have a better chance of seeing them if you are using the beta version of WhatsApp. In our tests, we were able to verify that on some mobiles, even after enabling the option, the effects did not appear in the video call

What effects are available in WhatsApp video calls? There are ten at the moment, and there is a little bit of everything, from facial distortions to accessories. They are as follows:

- Star Windows: To add floating stars to our eyes.

- Goof: It distorts the face to make us look fuller.

- Puppy: It gives us dog ears and a dog nose.

Nice day; puts sunglasses on us and puts some clouds in the background.

Tears: to add tears to your eyes.

- Underwater: To create a water reflection effect in the middle of the screen.

- Sparkles: Adds sparkle.

- Nervous: Distorts the face with a nervous expression.

- Energy: Shows an aura around our silhouette.

- Karaoke: Add microphone and backlight.

The effects worked well in our tests and were clearly visible to both people. WhatsApp hasn’t announced these effects for video calls yet, so if you don’t have them yet, you’ll have to wait until they’re rolled out globally.
