This Windows 11 bug steals nearly 9GB of space after updating to version 24H2
The user community has been waiting for the Windows 11 24H2 update for a few months now, which is the most important update of the year that brought a large number of new features, but also brought some bugs along the way.
The most common thing is that when we install, we clean up those old files that the system no longer needs to work, which was possible until now.
As many users reported after updating to Windows 11 build 24H2 that they found that they could not continue to remove 8.63 GB in previous cumulative updates.
One user said: “Just updated to Win 11 Pro 24H2. Everything works fine. However, I have 8.63GB of update files that were not deleted. I did a cleanup, but it didn’t make any difference.
Users believe that this may be a bug caused by the update, but this may not be entirely the case.
Microsoft recently launched control point-based cumulative updates, a way to deliver updates faster and with lower installation costs.
As a result, it is possible that previous cumulative updates were required for these control point updates, and cannot be deleted.
We'll have to wait for Microsoft to make a statement or release future updates to see if the behavior remains exactly the same, or if they'll offer a way to free up that much space on the computers of users who've updated to Windows 11 24H2.
