Samsung has announced the launch of a special edition of its foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6,  in South Korea, featuring a thinner and lighter design, an improved 200-megapixel camera, and a metal and glass design with a striped pattern.

The phone is 10.6mm thick and weighs 236g, making it the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold phone. Thanks to this design, the phone is expected to provide greater comfort in use. Samsung has slightly increased the screen size in the new phone, but without support for the S Pen.

The phone also features a striped back cover, and Samsung is using high-quality metal and glass materials, which is believed to be the same Armor Aluminum material that it used in the original Galaxy Z Fold 6. Samsung has also redesigned the camera housing to be rectangular instead of the usual oval shape.

The special edition of the phone comes with a noticeable upgrade in the main camera, as the phone has a resolution of 200 megapixels compared to the 50-megapixel primary camera in the original version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Samsung kept the other cameras unchanged, and Samsung confirms that the upgrade will allow for clearer photos and videos.

Samsung has also boosted performance by increasing the RAM to 16GB, making the phone better able to multitask and handle AI.

The phone is available with a storage capacity of 512 GB, while the first version, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, offers storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB, without changing the battery capacity of 4,400 mAh.

In terms of connectivity, the special edition supports Wi-Fi 7, while the first edition supports Wi-Fi 6e, allowing for higher download, streaming and gaming speeds.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and Samsung will provide the phone with updates for seven years, which means it will get Android updates until 2031.

Samsung is offering the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition for purchase in South Korea at a price equivalent to $2,000, and there is no current information available regarding the phone's availability in global markets.
