Samsung is planning to launch a tri-fold smartphone in 2025, according to informed sources in South Korea.

The company has already developed the necessary technology and prepared supplies for the new phone. The final decision will depend on the Mobile eXperience division, which is responsible for developing foldable phones.

Demand for the new Galaxy Fold6 and Galaxy Flip6 models was lower than expected, causing orders for foldable OLED displays to drop by more than 10%.

Samsung's shipments of displays for this type of panel in 2024 will reach 12 million units, which is 40% less than in 2023.

Despite the low demand, Samsung could try to attract new customers by launching an affordable version of the Galaxy Flip.

This isn't the first time Samsung has planned to launch a triple-screen smartphone. In March 2023, a leaker claimed that Samsung wasn't planning to launch the Galaxy S23 FE (that phone was eventually launched in October 2023) and would instead introduce a triple-folding display smartphone, which could debut in 2025.

Samsung has previously shown off prototypes of two smartphones called the Flex G and Flex S, with different folding mechanisms. While these designs haven’t made it to consumers yet, they look similar to the Huawei Mate XT  , as well as the Tecno Phantom Final 2 tri-smartphone concept that was unveiled in August.
