Pi An AI-powered chatbot that talks like ChatGPT Plus and is free
If you still don’t know Pi, I don’t blame you. It’s impossible to keep track of all the AI models and text generators that have emerged in the last two years.
However, Pi offers plenty of reasons to keep a close eye on it. For one thing, it’s a chatbot created by Inflection AI, a company headed by Mustafa Suleyman, one of the founders of Google DeepMind (one of the first companies to bet on neural networks and AI, way back in 2010). That alone is worth paying some attention to.
But in addition, Microsoft recently hired some of the brightest minds from Inflection AI to work on AI at Microsoft, making Suleiman the visible head of the division.
According to its creators, Pi is the first AI with emotional intelligence. Inflection AI wants its AI to “build confident, intelligent, friendly, and engaging conversationalists,” and that’s something you’ll notice as soon as you start chatting with Pi.
The app is currently only available on the web version for browsers, and its design is based on cards that suggest different queries, such as “How to talk to your crush,” “Philosophical questions,” “Empathy vs. sympathy,” or more mundane questions like “How to empty your email inbox.”
These cards are displayed only on the side of the screen, leaving the rest of the space available for the conversation to "breathe", with fonts much larger than usual.
Now, the magic that makes all of this fit into Pi’s philosophy is the “Voice Mode”. The app has 8 different voices to choose from, both male and female.
Although Pi currently only accepts text (no images or audio), all AI responses are read aloud. This means that the information sent to us is more organic and authentic.
Currently, Pi's interface and voices are in English, but we can also ask it to speak to us in Arabic and it will do so without any problems.
Pi is completely free, and can be used without registration, although you can add your email account to save your conversations. If you want to try the app, just head over to the official Pi website .
