How to Free Up 4GB Space by Deleting Old Windows 10 Update Files
Microsoft is currently focusing its efforts on improving Windows 10 through continuous updates. As we know, the system gets a major update every six months in addition to cumulative updates that work to repair the system, enhance its performance and increase the level of security.
But what many Windows 10 users do not know is that Windows automatically saves a copy of all updates installed via Windows Update. Even after installing new updates, there is a saved copy of old updates on the device where they can be retrieved if the new update causes any problems. But these saved copies of updates consume a large space on the hard disk , so if you are using Windows 10 on a small hard disk and want to save some space, delete the old update files as we will explain to you through the lines of this topic.
How to find the files and folders that consume the most space in Windows
Basically, it's not just Windows 10 that saves a copy of installed updates, but even Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. Users can safely delete these files using the Disk Cleanup tool, where you'll find Windows Update Cleanup among the unnecessary items that you can delete to save space. You'll notice that it takes up a lot of space, so if you don't plan to restore these old updates again, or there's not enough space on your hard drive, you should delete them. But in Windows 10, things are different, as you no longer need to use the Disk Cleanup tool, but the new Storage Sense feature does the job perfectly.
If you are using Windows 10 and want to delete old update files, all you have to do is go to the system settings by opening the Start menu and then clicking on the "gear" icon to open the settings window, or alternatively press the Windows button + the letter i together on the keyboard at the same time to show you the Settings window directly on the screen, then go to the System section and on the left side go to the Storage section where you will find on the right side the statistics of the use of each partition of the hard disk, and by scrolling down you will find the Storage sense option where you can activate it to clean Windows continuously whenever you need enough space to store files or install new programs, in general you will need from this page to click on the Free up space now option.
After you click on the Free up space now option, you will wait for some time, about 10 minutes at most, until the system analyzes and collects all unnecessary files and displays them in front of you, where you will find a list containing the size of temporary files, the size of saved thumbnail files and error reports that the system has detected and saved, and you will also find old update files and I want you to notice the size of Windows Update Cleanup, in the picture above we find that these files occupy more than 4 GB, you may have more or less than that, but in total their size will be very large, so you will put a check mark next to Windows Update Cleanup to select this option, then click on the Remove files button to delete the files directly and save this space.
