How to create a password for a flash drive, external hard drive, USB, or any partition without programs
In this topic, we will explain to you how to create a password for a flash drive or any external USB hard drive or any partition on the hard disk without programs, through simple steps in Windows. We will also learn together how to deal with the event that you forget the password for the flash drive or partition, and how to delete the password again.
An example of creating a password for a flash drive. The same steps are done on any USB disk as well as any partition on the hard disk.
First, you must of course put the flash memory in the device to make it appear like this
Then right click on the flash memory and select Turn on Bitlocker... as in the following image
For your information, BitLocker is a tool built-in to Windows to encrypt files, any storage disk or partition, or even encrypt the entire hard disk.
This is the feature that we will use, God willing, to create a password for the flash drive or external hard disk in this topic.
Then this form appears (and the flash drive must not be removed at this stage)
Then this shape appears
We select the Use a password to Unlock the drive box, then we write the password for the flash drive and repeat writing it, then we click Next as in the following figure.
Then this form appears, giving you the choice between saving the password recovery key in case you forget the flash drive password (which we will explain later)
- The first option allows you to save the file and send it to your Microsoft account
- The second option allows you to save the file to your device, which is better for most users
- The third option allows you to print the Recovery Key.
We choose save to file, then Next.
This form will appear, and from it we choose the place where you want to save the file in order to use it in case you forget the password, then we click on save.
This form appears. We choose the second option from it, which allows you to encrypt all files in use and new, and any file that is deleted from the flash drive as well. Then we click Next.
Then this form appears. We choose the second option from it so that the flash drive and the encryption key you are using are compatible with all Windows systems. Then we click Next.
Then this form appears. From it, we choose start encrypting to start encryption and set a password for the flash drive.
After that, the encryption is done and this window appears after the encryption process is completed.
Thus, the flash memory has been encrypted with a password, as the flash drive appears in this form. This form means that you can access the flash drive without any problems. In order to apply the changes, remove the flash drive and then connect the flash drive to the computer again.
Recover flash drive password in case you forget the flash drive password
Remove the flash drive or partition password
We put the flash memory, then press Right Click and choose Manage Bitlocker from it as shown in the figure
Then this form appears, from which we choose Turn Off Bitlocker
Then this message appears, from which we choose Turn Off bitlocker.
After that we see this shape because Windows is now decrypting the files
After the decryption is complete, this message appears.
At this stage, the flash drive password has been removed and the flash drive appears in its normal form when placed in the device, as in the following figure:
You can, as we have seen together, apply the same steps if you want to create a password for an external USB hard drive, any partition on the hard disk, or even any SD memory card.
