Goodbye Google Meet (Original): The video calling app has finally been removed from the Google Play Store

Google this year killed off another of its most popular platforms, especially for those in marketing or advertising. Now it will permanently close the doors to one of its two video calling apps, Google Meet, which has been removed from the Google Play Store as part of the tech giant’s efforts to centralize its offerings for video conferencing solutions.

The app has had a rather interesting ordeal, as it was known as Hangouts Meet in April 2020 before being renamed Meet. The changes didn’t stop there, as in 2022 the tech giant merged Google Duo into Google Meet because the former had a larger user base.

To avoid confusion, which is quite simple with so many changes Google makes, Hangouts Meet became known as Meet (original) and its icon started using the green color to always identify it. However, the tech giant is now facing a problem: two of Google's Meet apps are starting to notify users that they should uninstall the Meet (original) app and move to the Meet app, which has actually been renamed Duo.

A real mess, according to 9to5Google , which has now finally been resolved so that after 18 months Google can say it has officially killed Meet so that everything in the Meet app remains multicolored in the Google Play Store; and it is multicolored because its icon contains all of the company's brand colors.

The original Meet app is no longer working and users are advised to download the new version of the app from the Google Play Store.
