Gmail for Android launches a feature we've been waiting for for a long time
Over the past few weeks, Google has been updating its native apps with new features. So, after Google Contacts got a new interface to create a contact and Google Wallet received some interesting improvements both in its apps and in the web version, Google has now updated Gmail for Android with a feature that will surely come in handy for you.
Just yesterday, Google announced, via its official blog, an update to the Gmail mobile app, for Android and iOS, with new summary cards that will remain in the header of the email and will show you the most important information about it. Of course, as you can see in the images that we leave you below, these new summary cards will only appear, for the time being, in emails from four specific categories: bills, events, purchases, and travel.
The information shown on these new summary cards is updated dynamically and varies from category to category. So, in the case of invoice emails, this new information card will show you the name of the invoicer, the invoice amount, the due date, the minimum amount due, and two buttons where you can view the invoice and create a reminder.
For its part, in the case of an email related to an event, this dynamic summary card allows you to see the name of the event as well as its date, time, location, section, seat numbers, Google Calendar entry and account with a series of buttons that allow you to invite people to the said event, view tickets and check their instructions.
Likewise, in purchase-related emails, the Gmail app shows you the product name, image, shipping progress, order number, tracking number, and includes a few buttons that let you track the package and see more complete order information.
Finally, in emails about flight or other transportation reservations, this new summary card will show you location names, travel times, flight numbers, confirmation numbers, takeoff and landing times, a Google Calendar entry, and two shortcuts for managing your reservation.
Additionally, Google has also confirmed that you'll be able to access these new dynamic summary cards from Gmail search through a new section called "Happening Now" that will appear at the top of your inboxes.
