Fix Headphones Not Working and Not Responding on Windows 10

It may not be as easy as just buying a new professional headphone to enjoy its pure sound and new loud effects with Windows 10 .

Expect to encounter some problems at the beginning, which are often the result of conflicting device definitions or different audio settings controls.

In addition, the operating system often fails to understand and recognize the new audio extractor that you recently purchased, which makes us have to dive together into the sea of audio settings to find out which side exactly is which and how we can solve this problem.

If you're lucky enough to find that your new HeadPhones work perfectly fine once you plug them into your computer, you don't need to do anything, but we'll be focusing on users who are experiencing the headphone not being activated once plugged in, so stay tuned.

Locate the problem

Before we delve into the solutions and software manipulation, let's first shed light on the hardware itself and make sure it is working efficiently and free from any technical problems or manufacturing defects.

In most cases where you encounter the problem of the headphone not working, it is the result of a technical defect in the headphone itself or in the audio port or jack used for connection.

So you will first have to test the HeadPhones on a different device to make sure that the headset is working without any problems. If it turns out that the headset is not working, then you will know who the culprit is and your only option is to buy a replacement headset or exchange it if it is still under warranty.

But if it turns out that the speaker is working perfectly, then you should put your suspicions towards the audio port of the sound card integrated into the motherboard, a separate sound card, or even the laptop.

So try changing the audio jack you are using, if the headset works fine, you have no choice but to rely on that audio port until you buy a separate sound card that works.

But anyway, keep following the fixes, there might be some glitch in the settings that is causing the motherboard's built-in audio jack not to work properly.

How to install Windows 10 from hard disk via ISO file (without flash drive or CD)

Make sure your headset is set as the default audio player.

In some cases, Windows 10 will automatically disable the headset, so make sure that the headset is enabled in the Windows Sound window settings.

Just right-click on the audio port icon in the taskbar next to the clock and date, then choose Open Sound Settings from the menu and you will be taken to the sound device management window – you can access the same window by typing Manage Sound Devices in the Start menu and then opening the window.

Scroll down to the section related to the headset and make sure it is set to Enable.

In the future you can easily switch between audio modes through the Speaker tab.

Update, reinstall, or replace audio drivers.

The general rule of thumb is that if you plug your headphones into your computer's audio jack and hear a small chime, it means that the new device you've connected has been recognized, but it also means that there may be something wrong with the audio connection from your computer to your headphone.

To solve this problem, we will have to go to the Device Manager window by typing Device manager in the search in the taskbar and choosing the first result, then Audio inputs and outputs, then make sure to right-click on the command for the headset, then do Update Driver, then choose Search Automatically For Update Driver and Software.

Change the default format of the HeadPhone

Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar next to the clock and select Sounds.

From the new window, select the first tab, Playback, from the top, then stop on the headset specifically from the list of audio devices and click “right click” and then choose Properties.

From the new window at the top, select the third tab, Advanced. Then from the Default Format tab, select All Formats and each time you change the format, click the Test button to make sure you hear the test sound.
