Finally, Windows users can enjoy the official ChatGPT app on their computers. After five months of waiting since the Mac version was launched, OpenAI has decided to make the jump to the world’s most popular operating system. However, not all the news is good.

The Windows version comes with some limitations. For starters, it’s only available to paying users: if you have a ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, or Edu subscription, you’re out of luck. The rest will have to keep waiting or stick to  the web version .

But of course, one of the great advantages of having ChatGPT on your desktop is its integration with the system. With a simple keyboard shortcut (Alt + Space), you can open the chatbot at any time.

As for what it offers you, it allows you to upload files and images, create images using DALL-E, and even access the initial version o1, the most advanced model of OpenAI. However, there is one absence: the voice mode available in the Mac version.

For paying users, the app is now available in the Microsoft Store . The rest will have to be patient or stick with the web version. OpenAI says it plans to launch it for everyone before the end of the year.

The truth is, if you think about it for a moment, it’s strange that Windows, being the most widely used computer operating system in the world, had to wait so long to have its own ChatGPT app. What’s more, Microsoft, the owner of Windows, has invested billions in OpenAI.
