Beware of badmouthing Xiaomi on social media: Internet user convicted for spreading rumours
It’s recent news, so it hasn’t been widely circulated in international media at the moment. However, thanks to GizmoChina, we learned today that a netizen was recently convicted for spreading fake news and malicious information related to Xiaomi.
This all comes after Xiaomi filed a defamation lawsuit against a user identified as "DeepSea142183002" on the platform of one of the world's major social networking sites, as this netizen repeatedly spread false information and harmful news with the intention of causing conflicts with other companies.
In fact, Xiaomi has identified false allegations of foreign intellectual property and other fake news that have incited people to think poorly of Xiaomi, seeking to change public sentiment toward the company and its reputation in certain markets.
Xiaomi confirms significant economic losses, of course unspecified, which is why they indicate that they had to report the case so that their rights would be recognized and all the damage caused would be remedied, at least partially.
Finally, there was a pre-trial agreement that avoided major trouble for this netizen, who agreed to provide undisclosed financial compensation to Xiaomi. Not only that, but she was also forced to post a correction and public apology to both Xiaomi and its chairman Lei Jun on her online accounts, to repair the damage as much as possible.
There have been previous cases, so this is not the first time we have seen Xiaomi take legal action against other users who spread false information about the company or its devices, so in fact we can confirm that the company is taking quite proactive action in a timely manner to protect its brand image as well as misinformation and fake news.
