Be careful if you have one of these Xiaomi phones: they are no longer safe and we do not recommend buying them
Xiaomi, like many other companies, stops supporting some of its phones, either because they are old or because they do not have enough features to continue receiving software updates. In fact, the Asian company has a list called EOS (End of Support), which it occasionally updates with those devices that, unfortunately, will no longer be a priority for the brand. The latest version of the list adds two new phones.
They are actually available in different markets. This means that both phones have a global version, which, unfortunately, will most likely be added to the EOS end of support list.
Xiaomi’s end of support for these devices means that both smartphones will stop being updated. Not only will they no longer receive software updates with new features, like HyperOS 2.0 or the like, but they will also no longer be able to receive security patches. That means owning one of these phones today could pose a significant privacy and security risk, especially considering that they are vulnerable to vulnerabilities that Xiaomi will never patch.
Now, which Xiaomi phones will stop receiving updates? According to the EOS list that the company recently updated, the models that will no longer receive support are the Poco X3 and the Xiaomi Civi. This last mobile arrived in the European market under the name Xiaomi 12 Lite, so it is likely that this device will also be added to the list soon and will no longer receive support and therefore software updates, including HyperOS updates.
If you have one of these phones, it's best to upgrade to a newer one that continues to receive updates. Android phones typically support about 4 years of software updates and up to 7 years of security updates. Xiaomi states on its website that all of its phones get at least 2 years of updates.
