8 Features You Should Try Once You Update Your Phone to Android 15
Although it arrived later than previous versions of Android, the update to Android 15 can now be downloaded on all compatible Google Pixel phones, and very soon it will reach the phone of other brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus or Motorola.
This new version of Android comes loaded with really interesting new features, and so that you don't have to try them all to see which ones are useful and which ones aren't, we've picked out 8 Android 15 features that you should try after updating your smartphone to the new version of Android.
- Smart gadget previews
One of the major improvements coming with Android 15 is detailed previews of UI elements, a feature that will let you see how a widget will look before placing it on your smartphone's home screen.
- Automatic reactivation of Bluetooth
Google's Find My Device feature requires Bluetooth to be enabled in order to locate your devices, which is why Android has included a new switch that automatically reactivates Bluetooth 24 hours after it's disabled.
This way, if you forget to turn Bluetooth back on, Android 15 will activate it for you so you can locate your smartwatch, secondary smartphone, or headphones.
- Archiving applications
Another notable new feature in Android 15 is app archiving, a function that lets you delete an app from your phone to free up space, while saving its data so you can reinstall it later and restore it with its data on your device.
- Identify the song using the search circle
Android 15 includes an improved version of the AI-powered Circle to Search function, thanks to which you will be able to identify the songs you are listening to or humming.
So, to use this new feature, simply activate the “Circle to Search” by long pressing on the bottom navigation bar of the phone and tapping on the button with the musical note icon.
Once Circle to Search recognizes the song in question, it displays a Google search result that shows you information about it such as the name of the song and the artist performing it.
- Open two applications at the same time
Android 15 also lets you create a shortcut for two apps to open at the same time in split-screen mode.
To create this shortcut with two apps, all you have to do is touch the space between them when they are open in split screen mode.
- Set up a digital wallet app different from Google Wallet
Until now, Android didn't allow you to select a digital wallet app other than Google Wallet, but with the arrival of Android 15, you will be able to choose a third-party app and set it as the default.
- Partial screen recording
Android 15 also introduces a new feature in the screen recording function, where you can now record only one application, so that only the images of the mentioned application will appear in the resulting recording and not the rest of the previous operations that were performed until the application was opened.
Similarly, while you are recording your smartphone screen, an indicator appears in the top bar showing you the time you have been recording and a button to stop recording with one touch.
- Theft detection lock
Finally, Android 15 includes a new security feature that protects your phone when it's unlocked.
This new feature is called “Theft Detection Lock” and what it does is identify abnormal movements that occur when someone takes your smartphone and locks it to protect your private data.
But that's not all, because even if your phone isn't stolen, this new Android security measure blocks the device if someone turns off its internet connection.
This feature is available on some phones and we have explained how to activate it in this article: Search for this new feature from Google if it arrives on your phone and activate it without hesitation.
