YouTube announces new artificial intelligence features
Video sharing platform YouTube has announced new features that rely on artificial intelligence to help create content on the platform.
During a promotional event at Google's Manhattan office, CEO Neil Mohan introduced a range of new AI-powered features that will be rolled out to the platform this year.
Among the announced features is the ability to create short six-second videos using artificial intelligence, with the ability to integrate them into short video clips “YouTube Shorts”, based on video and image generation technologies from Google’s DeepMind, such as the Veo video generation model and the Imagen 3 image generation model.
YouTube said that artificial intelligence is a fundamental part of how YouTube works, including its content recommendation algorithm.
YouTube will integrate AI-generated text and image results into its Inspiration feature to help creators provide suggestions and examples of AI-generated video content, and will also offer “AI-enhanced” suggestions on how to respond to comments.
YouTube confirmed that 92% of YouTube content creators are already using AI tools.
Sarah Ali, the platform’s product manager, said that all AI-generated content will be watermarked with SynthID, a technology developed by DeepMind to watermark AI-generated material.
YouTube has announced another new feature called “Dream Track” that allows you to generate music clips without playing instruments for short video clips.
The platform indicated that it will expand the “automatic dubbing” feature by enhancing the quality of audio translations to sound more natural by imitating the original tone of voice and sound effects.
YouTube is also looking to expand monetization for creators by offering “direct gifts,” which allow viewers to support creators with small donations, similar to other platforms.
The platform had previously introduced the “DreamScreen” feature in 2023, which allows the creation of AI backgrounds for short videos.
