WhatsApp tests new features in statuses

WhatsApp has started testing new features in in-app status updates, which will enable users to tag contacts in statuses, as well as the ability to repost them.

According to what was observed in the latest beta versions of the application, WhatsApp has added the mention feature, which is a feature that allows users to tag their friends in status updates, similar to what happens in the Instagram application, by using the “@” sign followed by the contact you want to mention.

When you mention a contact, you will receive a notification, and the contact will be able to repost the status via their account via the repost button that will appear next to the reply box when viewing the status in which you were mentioned.

Unlike Instagram, the identity of the original status creator will remain hidden when the tagged contact reposts the status, and the tagged contact will not be visible to status viewers, to maintain users' privacy.

It is worth noting that WhatsApp will send a notification to the contact mentioned in the status update, and you will be able to see the status even if you are excluded from seeing other status updates via privacy settings.

WhatsApp's new features are still under testing, and the platform has not yet set an official date for their launch to all users in general, as the platform is accustomed to testing new features for varying periods of time before launching them widely to users who number more than two billion users around the world.
