Top 5 New Features in WatchOS 11
Two days ago, Apple released the final versions of its operating systems, most notably: iOS 18 for iPhones , iPadOS 18 for iPad tablets, and watchOS 11 for Apple smart watches.
watchOS 11 includes a wide range of new features that you can experience now if you own a Watch Series 6 or any recent version that supports the upgrade to the new system.
Below we will mention 5 of the most prominent new features in watchOS 11:
1- Advantage of detecting sleep apnea:
Sleep apnea can affect how well you rest, and it can also affect your health, leading to serious problems like heart disease and diabetes if left untreated. It’s a common condition that affects millions of people, but according to Apple, most cases go undiagnosed.
To help detect this issue, Apple has added a new feature to watchOS 11 that monitors your sleep and alerts you to potential signs of sleep apnea. The feature tracks sleep disturbances throughout the night, and every 30 days, the feature analyzes the data it has collected over that period to look for any signs of sleep apnea. If it finds any, you’ll receive an alert and can download a PDF of your sleep data to share with your doctor.
The new sleep apnea detection feature is only available on Watch Series 9, Watch Series 10 , and Watch Ultra 2.
2- New Vitals app:
watchOS 11 introduces an all-new app for Apple Watch users called Vitals, which tracks several key health metrics and can alert you if you see unusual readings. It tracks your heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, and sleep duration during the night, and can show you any anomalies compared to your usual data.
If you have anomalies, you'll receive a notification on your Apple Watch that includes information about your unusual data and possible reasons for it.
3- Training Load feature to track exercise intensity:
The new Training Load feature measures your workouts over four weeks, with intensity scaled from 1 to 10, and Apple Watch then compares your current workouts to those from the past week and the past 28 days. This way, you can see if your workouts from the previous week were significantly lower, lower, flat, higher, or significantly higher than your current workouts. This helps you adjust your workout intensity and track your fitness progress.
4- Ability to pause exercise episodes:
Previously, Activity Rings had to be closed every day to ensure you didn’t lose your activity tracking. This can be annoying if you’re tired some days and can’t close your Activity Rings but don’t want to lose your previous activity tracking. To solve this problem, watchOS 11 adds a new feature that lets you stop closing your Activity Rings at any time without affecting your previous tracking streak. You can pause your Activity Rings for a day, a week, or a month if you want, and you can also customize your goals for different days of the week.
5- Translation application:
The Translate app has been available on iPhones since iOS 14 in 2020. Now it's coming to Apple Watches with watchOS 11, and it helps you communicate with people who don't speak your language.
The app works in over 20 different languages, just select the language you speak and the language you want to translate into, then speak out loud in your native language and your Apple Watch will pick up what you said and translate it into the target language, you can tap the speaker icon to have your Apple Watch read the translation out loud.
