TikTok rolls out updated subscription feature for creators

TikTok has announced the launch of its updated monetization feature “Subscription” for eligible creators in select regions, including Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

The company says it plans to expand the feature to additional regions in the coming weeks.

The official rollout comes after TikTok said in March that it would rename its LIVE Subscription monetization feature to Subscription and would soon expand it to non-Live creators.

The “subscribe” feature is TikTok’s answer to Patreon, a platform for creators that allows people to share exclusive content with paying subscribers.

TikTok also competes with Instagram Subscriptions and YouTube channel memberships, two features that allow creators to increase their earnings by giving users access to exclusive content and additional benefits.

The expansion means that regular creators are now able to provide paying subscribers with exclusive content and other benefits.

TikTok offers three different levels for subscribers who pay three different prices, and each level provides different exclusive privileges for a monthly fee.

Subscribers get access to exclusive content that only paying users can see, including videos, live streams, and notes.

Subscribers also have access to perks including additional communication channels, such as Sub Space, an exclusive space for creators to interact with their subscribers.

Additionally, subscribers can get unique stickers to use during live broadcasts and badges that appear next to their names across their accounts and in comments.

Creators can also offer perks specifically designed for their community. TikTok explained that custom perks are other benefits that creators can choose from a ready-made menu provided by TikTok.

These features include performance requests, voice messages, behind-the-scenes videos, the ability to play together, and more.

In order to benefit from the subscription, creators must have more than 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the past calendar month.
