This is the worst thing that can happen to you if you buy a Pixel 9 Pro XL
Remember the problem in 2016 with some Samsung phones that could explode due to faulty batteries? In the US, they had to evacuate a flight because of this.
Obviously, when we buy an electronic device, it is always possible that it has a factory defect. In the case of mobile phones, there have been no noticeable manufacturing defects since the incident with the Samsung Galaxy, although you can always find unpleasant "surprises" that spoil the experience of using a new mobile phone.
And that's exactly what happened with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Google's new smartphone was launched on August 13, and there are already some users complaining about very serious touchscreen issues.
As seen through several Reddit posts , some Google Pixel 9 XL owners are seeing how their phones are unable to detect keystrokes on the edges of the screen.
Worst of all, it has an erratic behavior, because sometimes it detects the touch after pressing a few times if we insist a little. It might detect sliding to a corner, but sometimes it might not detect anything at all. But then, if I lock the screen, the touchpad works perfectly on the lock screen.
This can be very frustrating, as most of the buttons and options menus on Android are located in the corners. Can you imagine wanting to remove an ad but not being able to do so because the closing X is in the top right corner of the screen? Quite a task.
From what affected users are saying, it seems to be a software issue. The fault could be with the palm detection system, which is not configured properly. Something that can be checked by placing the phone horizontally and checking if the touch margins of the screen are working.
Google seems to be aware of this bug and will definitely release a patch to fix it in one of the upcoming Android 15 updates. Anyway, if you’re thinking of buying a new Google phone, I’d make sure to keep a close eye on it at least for a while.
It doesn't appear that many users are affected, but you never know when your turn might come in. The Pixel 9 XL is an excellent phone, but we're talking about a device that costs more than $1,000.
