Tecno launches the Phantom V Flip 2 and Phantom V Fold 2 foldable phones
Tecno has launched two new foldable phones, the Phantom V Fold 2 and Phantom V Flip 2. Both phones come with the manufacturer's AI Suite.
The Phantom V Fold 2 evolves from its predecessor while retaining some key specs, such as the Dimensity 9000+ chip, a 7.85-inch inner display, and a 6.42-inch outer display.
The big change is the body, which is now less than 6.1mm thick when unfolded and less than 12mm when folded. It has also lost a lot of weight, now weighing in at around 249g, down from around 300g, although the battery capacity has increased.
Tecno has equipped the Phantom V Fold 2 with Ella AI assistant powered by Google's Gemini AI model.
The full suite of AI features includes smart Q&A, AI Summarization for use with PDFs and web pages, AI Translation with live translation during calls, and AI Typing for text summarization, creative writing, and rewriting.
Other features that take advantage of the big screen include an AI drawing pad that turns scribbles into drawings, and AI wallpapers that allow users to create wallpapers with a simple text prompt.
Tecno also uses AI to enhance its Universal Tone technology, which accurately captures diverse skin tones in photos.
The company has completely redesigned the camera in the Phantom V Fold 2, which is a triple camera with a wide main lens, an ultra-wide lens, and a portrait lens, and all three rear sensors are 50 megapixels.
There are two 32MP front cameras; one on the outer screen and the other on the inner screen.
The phone comes with 12GB of RAM with 12GB of virtual RAM, while the internal storage space comes with 512GB.
The phone is powered by a 5,750mAh battery that supports 70W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
Tecno also expanded its foldable phone lineup with the launch of the Phantom V Flip 2, which features a 3.64-inch, 1056 x 1066 pixels customizable outer display and a 6.9-inch, 1080 x 2640 pixels, 120Hz AMOLED inner display.
The external display features interactive pets, mini games, a full keyboard, and supports over 2,000 apps for easy access without opening the device.
The Phantom V Flip 2 has all the AI features found in the foldable Phantom V Fold 2.
Unlike the Phantom V Fold 2, the Phantom V Flip 2 hasn't seen any major changes in weight or size, still being foldable at under 200g and around 7.6mm thick when unfolded and 16mm when folded.
The device has a double steel hinge that can withstand up to 400,000 folding operations and supports folding angles between 30 degrees and 150 degrees.
The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity D8020 processor with 8GB of RAM and 8GB of virtual RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The phone comes with a dual rear camera with a 50-megapixel primary lens, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 150-degree field of view, and a 32-megapixel front camera.
The device is powered by a 4,720mAh battery that supports 70W fast wired charging.
Tecno is launching the Phantom V Flip 2 at $700, while the Phantom V Fold 2 is launching at $1,100, which is much lower than competitors.
