Tecno launches its new smartphone POP 9 5G
Tecno has launched a new budget smartphone, the POP 9 5G, which comes as a successor to the POP 8 that was released last year.
The device features major upgrades over its predecessor. The unique feature of the device is a high refresh rate screen and 5G connectivity at an affordable price.
The new Tecno phone features a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1612 x 720 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth viewing experience with the Dynamic Port feature for notifications.
Design-wise, the device features a square camera island across the back and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button. It's also IP54 dust and water resistant and comes with an infrared sensor.
Tecno has equipped the phone with the octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor with Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
The processor is paired with 4GB of RAM with an additional 4GB of virtual RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage expandable using a microSD card.
The new Tecno phone has a dual rear camera with a 48MP primary lens with Sony IMX582 sensor, and a secondary AI lens. There is an 8MP front camera.
The smartphone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.
In terms of software, the device runs on the HiOS 14 user interface based on the Android 14 operating system.
Connectivity options on the POP 9 5G include 5G, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, USB-C port, and NFC.
Tecno is launching the phone at $115 for the 4GB + 64GB version, and $120 for the 4GB + 128GB version. The brand is also offering two additional covers for the back.
