Sony officially unveils PlayStation 5 Pro: features, price and release date
Sony has revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro, promising to double the performance of the PS5 and improve aspects like ray tracing. It goes on sale on November 7 for $799. Add another $120 if you want the disc reader.
As rumored, the PS5 Pro's big improvement lies in the GPU, which is twice as powerful as the PS5's, with new technical capabilities, such as better ray tracing and AI rescaling.
In today's presentation, Mark Cerny, PlayStation's chief design officer and the main creator of the PS5, said the PS5 Pro improves on the PS5 in what he calls the "big three": GPU, ray tracing, and AI.
Sony didn’t reveal the hardware, but did provide technical data. The GPU has 67% more computing units, and the RAM is 28% faster. That makes graphics rendering 45% faster. Ray tracing is also two to three times faster.
Performance mode will be more accurate and detailed, and Fidelity mode will be able to reach 60fps in many cases, using ray tracing.
Sony has confirmed that the PS5 Pro Game Boost mode will automatically boost over 8,500 PS4 and PS5 games. The console will also feature Wi-Fi 7, 2TB of storage, and a copy of Astro Bot pre-installed.
The company did not provide full technical specifications, but we already know what is important: more technical quality, more frames per second, and a lot of ray tracing using AI scaling.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will go on sale on November 7 for $799, without the disc drive. The drive will be sold separately for $120, and $919 if you want to take advantage of the games you already have on disc.
