Snapchat redesigns its app interface
Snapchat has announced its biggest redesign of its app in years, reducing the number of interface sections from five to just three: one for messages and stories, a section for the camera, and another for full-screen video content similar to the TikTok interface.
The platform revealed the new design, called “ Snapchat Simple ,” during Snap’s annual Partner Summit in Los Angeles.
“This design makes Stories more conversational, simplifies content discovery, and gives users direct access to the camera to express themselves,” said Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO.
Prior to this announcement, Snapchat's interface consisted of five main sections, before merging the conversations and stories sections into one tab, and moving the map section to it as well.
In the Videos section, the platform will showcase full-screen videos from publishers, creators, and media content from other partners like the Wall Street Journal and Daily Mail. The company relies heavily on revenue from ads displayed around this content, so it will roll out the new update gradually to see how it gets received.
The platform aims to make Snapchat easier and more attractive for watching videos that users usually go to TikTok or Instagram to watch. The platform also hopes that this design will improve the work experience for content creators, who publish more than a billion pieces of content per month through the app, and make profits through the revenue sharing program.
In a related context, Snapchat announced the launch of a new lens based on artificial intelligence that allows users to see how they might look in old age in an exciting and interesting experience. The platform also added improvements to the “Memories” section to enable users to retrieve their special moments from the past in more innovative ways.
