Sam Altman reveals his vision for the future of artificial intelligence

Sam Altman, the current CEO of OpenAI, revealed his vision for the future of artificial intelligence, in a rare post on his personal blog.

Altman's vision seems very optimistic, consistent with his current position at the world's leading AI technology company, and similar to the expectations of many other AI leaders.

Altman predicted that artificial intelligence would reach the level of “superintelligence,” which exceeds human capabilities, within “a few thousand days,” as he put it, which means that its arrival is closer than we expect.

Altman's prediction can be taken seriously, as he is currently familiar with the current projects and future plans of the world's most important AI company.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had also stated a few days ago that  artificial intelligence is developing at a speed that exceeds Moore's Law , a law that was established decades ago to describe the speed at which technology is developing, especially in the field of electronic chips.

Altman described the future of AI as seeing the emergence of personal assistants that operate independently and are able to perform diverse tasks such as coordinating medical care.

Altman noted that artificial intelligence will lead to major scientific advances, as it will help in the emergence of new, more advanced systems, adding that artificial intelligence will achieve “shared prosperity on a scale that seems unimaginable today.”

However, Altman stressed that many challenges must be addressed before this future can be achieved, such as the cost of energy and the electronic components needed to operate these systems, noting that failure to build the appropriate infrastructure could lead to wars due to competition over limited AI resources.

Altman also predicted major changes in the job market as AI capabilities develop, but he made clear that he does not believe humans will face a shortage of jobs.

Elsewhere, Altman continued his talk about artificial intelligence during a panel discussion with the UN's Technology Envoy, Amandeep Singh Gill, at an event organized by OpenAI on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in Manhattan.

Altman explained that the world is rapidly embracing achievements that most of us thought were impossible just a few years ago.

Altman praised his company's newly launched "O1" model , which can perform deep thinking on problems and issues, has advanced mathematical capabilities, and "works at the level of elite programmers," he claimed.

Altman said the reasoning capabilities of the new model, “O1,” convinced him that artificial intelligence is getting closer to achieving its goal of advancing scientific discovery.

Altman's statements add to the growing debate about the impact of artificial intelligence on the world, as some people see a promising future in it, while others fear that it will lead to machines dominating humans, losing their jobs, and perhaps their death.
